Phantom Busters, the manga about an exorcist club with a very unusual method, has officially been confirmed for a TV anime adaptation set to premiere in 2027. The announcement came through a dedicated website that opened on September 24, along with a new illustration from creator Neoshoco to celebrate the news.
What makes Phantom Busters stand out in a genre full of exorcist stories is its premise. Straight-A student Eugene Korekishi doesn't believe in ghosts, but his classmate Mogari Shishikuro does more than just believe in them, he eats them whole. Since Mogari can't actually see ghosts on his own, the pair team up with anyone who can, and end up forming an exorcist club at school along the way. Later, they recruit Kaoru Kanzaki, and go looking for a fourth member in Kotaro Tamon, a classmate who can talk to ghosts but struggles badly with talking to actual people.
The manga launched in August 2023 in Shueisha's Jump Square, and has already sold over 1.4 million copies, including digital editions. VIZ Media publishes it in English, with the fourth volume out in July and the fifth arriving on October 6. In Japan, the seventh volume released in February, with the eighth due on October 2. The series also placed fourth in AnimeJapan's Manga We Want to See Animated 2025 ranking, so this adaptation has been a while in the making and clearly wanted by fans.
No studio, staff, or exact release window has been announced yet, just the confirmation and the 2027 timeframe. Neoshoco shared a short message thanking readers for making the adaptation possible, saying the story's energetic, comedic tone will come through even more once the characters start moving on screen.
